Back Cover Research

Image result for rae sremmurd albumWhist looking at the final ideas for the back cover I took inspiration from Rae Sremmurd SremmLife as I want to use the half and half effect between the artist in the song and have the track listing going down the middle of the the image. The way that  am planning to adapt this is by using a smoke effect on the artist making him look like poison gas in relation to the song title.

Mock-up Designs (Cover art)

In this post I came up with three concept designs for the front cover of the music cover. The aim of this was that I can gain feedback on aspects of the designs in which they likes and what one is the best of the three shown overall as well as how in which to improve them. The first design produced was a long shot of the guy sitting down and the girl leaning against a bottle of poison as it connotes to the song title poison. The bottle would be made using photoshop along with the cupid's as they connote love which is usually reminiscent of love. This design got a positive interaction because of the relevance with the actual song because of the poison bottle and the cupid's. However the negatives that occurred with this is the shot type as the majority of music album covers have as shot ranging from close-up to medium-shot and not a long-shot as a person cannot see the main artist of the song.
The second Design proposed was a side shoot of the main artist however, has a merged image of a man and woman about to kiss extending out of the back of the guy head. Thais was meant to combine real photography as well as Photoshop editing in relevance with my case studies on music albums as I was looking at the combination of graphic designed covers in cohesion with real images. The positives from this approach would be the shot type as it is more conventional for for album covers as a similar shot was used in Drake's 'Nothing was the same' album and the design would be reflective of the majority of music covers interpreting a graphical aspect. The negative comments came from the image that was to be displayed graphically as it wasn't reflective of the song. As a result I am attempting to create an extension that would be more coherent with the actual song.

Remix of Jahkoy Poison (9/11/16)

Today w e continued editing the video up until the second verse as we made sure the singing was synced up and connected well with each other. In addition we found a remixed version of Jahkoy's Poison however the only thing that has changed was the beat (BPM stays the same) and the intro instrumental has been moved to the conclusion of the song. As a whole this improves the songs genre as the original was more focussed towards R&B with the instrumental and the new one has a heavier base line without the keyboard melody. As a whole we planned on whatsapp the changes that would need to be made to suit the new beat.

3D Text Effect (10/11/16)

One of the other effects that we looked into was the inclusion of 3D text to narrate the words sung by the artist appearing on screen this is usually done in lyrical video where the text would appear on the screen as the artist sings it. This is usually done with the use of the rule of third where the main actor is not positioned directly in front but, is positioned to the right or left hand side of the grid and never in the centre. The benefits of doing this is that their would be space on the side to edit upon. This method is based on the Kendrick Lamar swimming pool as he used the rule of thirds in his shots in placing a character to the left or right of the central frame. However the lyric style is based of looking into research videos as they usually provide two versions so, if no one knew a specific verse and wanted to sing along to the verse the lyrics would be on screen in the time of the artist sings the song. This is going to be featured in the rapping verse of the song as that is faster part of the song and would benefit from the words being of screen at the pace of his singing. This is most notable in Kanye West ft T-Pain song 'Good Life' as they use a more cartoon and animated approach to display parts of the chorus on the screen as they say it.

Drawing Effect (7/11/16)

In the music video, we began to edit some of the shots in that were done in the studio and decided to add the drawing effect to some of the footage this effect style consists of drawing around certain objects in a single frame and chaining them together to create an outline of the main artist. This has been used in videos like the Justin Bieber (What do you mean lyric video) in which the same effect was applied to his video of a people skate boarding a this is applied to the scenery and the skateboarders, lytics and the environment. This creates a cartoon/ hand drawn effect that is often used in slower songs to capture key actions. This would be used in our video over the key actions done in the studio as those are the more plain scenes that we captured in the studio. The software we would use to do this is after effects and link it with premiere pro so all the changes we make on premiere pro would reflect of the original video allowing us to work on then individually. The goal is that we could use a range of edits to change the overall presentation of the video.

Email to Olympic Park

Today I finalised the application form to film in hyde park and sent it to the designated website to receive a reply as to whether they would forward the request to commence filming there. The plan was that this had to be sent 5 working days before the intended day of filming so we was planning to film on the 5/11/16 as this was a weekend in which we would all be available to film as it was around midday. To conclude the email I attached the letter on headed paper to prove  that we were all students to bypass the need for event liability insurance as well as a site plan for the areas that we were planning to use in the filming process.

Ilford (17/10/16)

Today I went to the ilford exchange to see whether we would gain permission to do filming at the premises. In this I spoke to the management of the shopping centre however, we had a similar response to what we received from Westfield as they said that because of health and safety they don't permit filming in their building due to health and safety as a result we are going to have a group discussion as to whether we could find an alternative location or filming style that would allow us to compensate for the location.

Role list

This states all the sub-roles we would be having within the group as well as all the input we would have in the pre-production, filming and Editing Standpoint to divide the Tasks that we would be doing in the group. This would allow us to focus on getting tasks completed sooner and have us start filming.

Letter On Headed Paper

Thil letter on headed paper is going to be sent with the rest of the Filming and Photography Application form to request permission to film at a royal park (Hyde Park). This would be sent with the application as soon as we decide a date we can all possibly film.

Adobe Creative Suite Tutorials

This workshop was held on the 12/10/16 to provide clarity on the softwares produced by adobe creative suite (Photoshop, After effects, Premiere Pro & Illustrator.) The purpose of this workshop was to teach new skills to do in this workshop as well as a re-cap on the use of DSLR cameras. This workshop was to prepare us for the production part of our project (Editing and Filming) so all we would have the appropriate settings for filming.

Storyboard Analysis

In this we have a detailed scene by scene layout of the production as well as certain key frames and actions that would be performed at certain times. This allow us to have a organised time in which we want everything to in terms of location and actions performed by the artist but, we also have instructions for the  cameraman as we also state the camera shots that would be used at that moment allowing us to have a clear structure to the production of the music video. In total we should have 40 scenes in the entirety of the video along with 3 locations being used. In this we also looked at our case studies to look at the shots we could possibly use and editing techniques we could use for the editing process.

Copyright Email

This is the copyright clearance we had e-mailed to Def Jam Records that are the record label that have signed Jahkoy and have ownership of the music he has produced. In this we sent them an email to request clearance to use the audio of the artist they have signed. This is to eliminate the act of copyright claiming the video and having it either taken down or have no royalties to be claimed from the video. By doing this we legally ask the label to use the audio from the artist.
